Winter isn't the easiest of times to get out and take photographs, especially when the daylight hours are taken up with work. So any time off is most welcomed and will most probably be filled with me heading out with my camera. Luckily Christmas was around the corner along with my usual two weeks off. I was excited to use some the days off to get out in the local area and get some shots.
So the village was quiet and there wasn't a lot of activity, It was a couple of degrees above freezing and I had found myself in a secluded section of the woods on the outskirts of the village. I had brought some bird seeds and nuts with me to try entice the birds, I left the seeds on a fallen tree out in an opening in the woods. I moved away from the bait and hid behind a tree stump about ten meters away. I kept hearing all kinds of birds; Jays, Spotted Woodpeckers, Blue Tits, Buzzards, Red Kites, Ravens and Robins. But unfortunately nothing was going for it. However my luck changed.
I had been sat at this point behind the stump for about half an hour before a curious family of three Roe Deer appeared. I'm pretty sure they noticed me however they didn't seem to feel threatened enough to leave. We locked eyes numerous times, frustratingly there was always an annoying branch in the way of the shot, until one of them moved closer to me and providing me the opportunity to get the photograph below. The family of deer had stayed for long that I eventually had to break my cover because of the low temperature and I was freezing. I had been sat for a couple of hours and I needed to get back home and warm up again and look over my shots.
